About

The Black Athlete Sister Circle

Dr. Tomika Ferguson, a former Division I All-American student-athlete, was inspired by her own journey and founded the Black Athlete Sister Circle (BASC) in 2016, as a revolutionary space for Black women in college sports.

BASC is not just a program; it’s a movement designed to empower Black women athletes. Imagine a space where they can be unapologetically Black, unapologetically Women, and unapologetically Athletes. That’s exactly what BASC provides, creating a tailored experience for Black women college athletes. BASC is a data-driven and practice-based solution. Seven key themes, including athlete identity, campus climate, and mentorship, form the foundation of the BASC program structure.

The good news? BASC is expanding! With active chapters in Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky, this empowering initiative is making waves. Colleges and universities, it’s your turn to join the movement. Start a BASC at your campus and enhance the college experience for Black women athletes. Trained facilitators and student-athlete leaders can lead chapters, ensuring the impact is felt across campuses. Schedule a BASC partner meeting and unlock the potential of the BASC framework at your institution.
